Endorsement Process

Thank you for your interest in screening with the Southeast Minnesota Area Labor Council for the Labor endorsement. The SEMNALC represents over 40,000 Union members in Blue Earth, Dodge, Faribault, Fillmore, Freeborn, Goodhue, Houston, LeSueuer, Mower, Nicollet, Olmsted, Rice, Steele, Wabasha, Waseca, and Winona counties. 

The SEMNALC screens candidates seeking public office for:

  • US House Districts: MN-01, MN-02
  • State Senate Districts: 19, 20, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28
  • State House Districts: 19A, 19B, 20B, 21A, 21B, 23B, 24A, 24B, 25A, 25B, 26A, 26B, 27A, 27B, 28A, 28B
  • Municipal, County, and School Board elections within the counties listed above

The SEMNALC will screen 2020 state legislative candidates beginning in April 2020. If you wish to screen with the SEMNALC,  complete the MN AFL-CIO 2020 Legislative Candidate Questionnaire online form. Once completed, the SEMNALC will contact you to schedule and in-person screening with the COPE Committee (Committe on Political Education). After screening, the COPE Committee will vote whether or not to submit your name for endorsement consideration to the statewide 75-member MN AFL-CIO General Board. If you are recommended, the MN AFL-CIO General Board will consider your endorsement at their June 2020 meeting.
