Minnesota AFL-CIO President Bernie Burnham made the following statement on the retirement of Northeast Area Labor Council President Alan Netland:

“On behalf of Minnesota’s entire Labor Movement, I want to thank President Netland for his years of service to the working people of Duluth, Northeast Minnesota, and his home union AFSCME.

“The working people of Northeast Minnesota are better off thanks to Alan’s years of leadership and advocacy.

“As a longtime Duluth resident, parent, educator, and Labor leader I’ve known and worked with Alan in countless ways. He has been a steadfast ally, mentor, and friend.

“I know I’m not the only one who can say, Alan, you taught me well and I’m grateful for all we’ve done together throughout the years. I wish you and Melanie all the best as you take on many new adventures.

“I look forward to working with President Derek Peterson as he steps in to leadership for the Northeast Area Labor Council. We have work to do!”
